  Adventures in Honesty Practice Group
First Thursday of Each Month starting April 6, 2006 from 1 - 2:30 pm Eastern
Led by facilitator chosen at beginning of group, from among participants
Leader style: Originally designed by Martha Lasley and Jeff Brown, this practice group has different facilitators each month. We offer some fun ways to practice radical, empathic honesty. Join some NVC honesty junkies, going where it's scariest to go, but where the most energy and potential for transformation resides.

Learn new ways to:

  • Find the strength to go to straight to the heart of jackal messages
  • Enjoy the energy of the jackal and translate quickly
  • Express yourself without getting lost in the "obligation" to offer empathy
  • Foster intimate connections based on authenticity and transparency
  • Surf the wave of emotional intensity and fear
  • Discover that the loudest and most violent messages also contain the most potential energy for shift and transformation

Class Description:

Want to be more real?  Want to find more balance between listening empathically and expressing yourself honestly?  If your words get caught in your throat, join us to practice some playful ways of finding your voice.

We'll start with a lighthearted activity to build trust and then spend most of our time expressing honestly. We'll practice connecting with bodily sensations, expressing our full range of emotions, connecting with our changing needs, and voicing our full aliveness.

For the sake of self connection, we'll turn the tables on the giraffe dance and put expression first, before empathic listening. We'll ask you to try three rounds of expression, BEFORE reflecting empathically. Even if your dance partner says, "I need some empathy, dammit!" we'll ask you to honestly express three times before shifting into giving empathy to your partner.

  Preclass Instructions:
An inquiry for you to think about before class: How would your life be different if you expressed yourself honestly more often? What if, in the midst of a firestorm of emotional intensity, instead of shirking back in fear as we have been taught, you remained engaged and open?

This class is free and we welcome your donations.
